35

Five years ago, here was a conversation I had with my father:

Dad: How old are you now?
Pam: I'm 30.
Dad: (long pause).....Old.

That pretty much sums up the conversation I'm probably going to have again now but this time I've just turned 35.

Now that today's my 35th birthday, I have alot to be grateful for but starting to feel ancient. I have a wonderful family who loves me, long time friends who are very dear to me and great work colleagues (because after all, I do spend 8 hours, 5 days a week with them).

But I still think about some of the things I have yet to accomplish.

- can't swim
- can't ride a bicycle properly
-no driver's license
-no children (my parents are really bummed about that one!)
- read War and Peace

There's a bunch of other things but I can't remember. The mind is starting to go...

King Yum

Last Sunday, Uncle Glenn and Joan took Matt and I out for dinner to King Yum. To our surprise, we saw a notice stating that Jimmy Eng passed away. It's currently in the news:
http://nymag.com/daily/food/2008/01/king_yum_patriarch_jimmy_eng_dies_at_87.html

King Yum is one of those old school Chinese restaurants that they don't make anymore. It reminds me of Dragon Sea Restaurant out in Franklin Square, LI where my grandfather worked oh so long ago. That restaurant closed down back in the 80s but it brings a smile to my face every time I reminisce about the Tiki decor, the wishing fountain, the bar where I would have a soda with the little umbrella...

Now hearing about Jimmy Eng, it's sad. It's true that he would go over to your table as a good host would and check to see if everything was okay. I would assume that one of the following will happen -
close the restaurant for good
sell the restaurant to new ownership and keep the name
sell the restaurant and change the name.

His wake will be held in Chinatown next week at Ng Fook which is one of the funeral parlors on Mulberry Street. Not to be mistaken by Wah Wing Sang which my Uncle Biu's wake was held last month.

Global Warming

It's the second week of January and the weather report reads that it's going to be 68 degrees! What is going on? It feels like summer. This flip flop weather is going to get me sick when it goes back down to the 30s next week.

Trying to stay warm

This morning, I skipped a day at the exercise room plus I'm achy. It's not easy running that stupid treadmill while the sun isn't up yet.

Happy New Year

So it's 2008. Happy New Year. It's a chance to start fresh again. This year's resolution which I'm horrible of keeping is to try to exercise more.

This first program I watched during the first few hours of January 1st 2008 is a "Hip Hop Abs" informercial. Meanwhile as I'm squeezing my muffin top of a tummy, I'm trying to figure out how to make those movements so I can lose those inches off and dance like Justin Timberlake. I'm tempted of ordering the DVD but I remember 10 years ago when ordering those Billy Blank tapes. Those tapes eventually ended up in the garbage.

Tomorrow's a work day. I hope I can make it to the excerise room.
